BASEBALL: Olympic Crosscutters chop down North Kitsap

BREMERTON — The Olympic Crosscutters scored eight of their nine runs in the final three innings to take down North Kitsap 9-5 in an 18U American Legion baseball contest.

Chimacum’s Lane Dotson helped himself out at the plate while pitching a complete-game on the mound in the win.

Dotson got things rolling for the Cutters with an RBI single to score Neah Bay’s Rwehabura Munyagi Jr. in the top of the first inning.

North Kitsap tied the game on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning.

Quilcene’s Andy Johnston inning-opening double to left field sparked a three-run fifth inning for the Cutters. Two runs came when Munyagi reached on an error after hitting a line drive to the North Kitsap pitcher.

A Justin Porter sacrifice fly later brought home Munyagi.

Trailing 6-1, North Kitsap scored four in the bottom half of the sixth, but a two-run single by the Cutters’ Anthony Bitegeko in the top of the seventh provided the area team with some insurance.

Dotson yielded a walk, asingle to right field and hit a batter to load the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh.

But the Cutters got the lead runner at home plate on a fielders’ choice, and Dotson struck out the final batter to close out the win.

Olympic (9-0) will visit Central Kitsap on Wednesday.
