FORKS — Quileute Tribal School students learned how to build their own remotely operated vehicles during a session with the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary and University of Washington School of Oceanography staff.

They also learned about ocean research through the ROVs during the session Feb. 29, said Nicole Harris, education specialist with the sanctuary, which is based in Port Angeles.

The session was at the Olympic Natural Resources Center in Forks.

Student participants were shown how ROVs conduct deep-sea exploration in national marine sanctuaries and built and tested their own student ROVs with University of Washington oceanography staff and Marine Advanced Technology Education mentors, Harris said.
