2nd UPDATE: Police standoff with felon near Joyce ends with two men in custody

PORT ANGELES — A police standoff with a wanted felon who said he was holding another man hostage ended at 4:27 p.m. today as both men surrendered to authorities.
“The investigation is only beginning at this point,” said Sgt. John Hollis of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.
A home with two men inside at Salt Creek RV Park, 53802 state Highway 112, was surrounded by law enforcement officers for nearly eight hours before negotiators were able to talk Ordez Eugene Kompkoff, 20, into giving himself up.
John Hosel, whom Kompkoff said he was holding at gunpoint, also emerged from the home at that time, Hollis said.
Kompkoff was to be booked into the Clallam County jail, and Hosel would be interviewed, he said.
Hollis said no firearms had been recovered.
Law enforcement officers were waiting for a warrant to search the home, he said.
The Sheriff’s Office, Port Angeles Police Department and other law enforcement agencies closed Highway 112 at mile marker 51 for the duration of the standoff.
Kompkoff was wanted for failing to return to state Department of Corrections custody in November while taking part in a work-release program.
He has an extensive criminal history in Port Angeles.
In 2015, police had sought Kompkoff after a reported drive-by shooting on Orcas Avenue on March 18 and a home invasion on East Ninth Street on March 21.
Police pursued him March 21, but he fled.
On March 30, Kompkoff was spotted in the city and prompted the two-hour modified lockdown of three schools in the area before he was located and taken into custody.
He pleaded guilty to first degree unlawful possession of a firearm and was sentenced to 18 months incarceration and 18 months probation on June 11.
