BUSINESS BRIEFS: Peninsula businesses honored by secretary of state . . . and other items

OLYMPIA — Several Washington businesses recently were honored by the secretary of state for giving back to their local communities, and among them were two from the North Olympic Peninsula.

Four businesses were the recipients of the 2015 Corporations for Communities Award, which honors exceptional businesses in the state that make it a priority to help the community, according to a news release.

Port Angeles-based First Federal was the winner of the large-company category, along with GlassyBaby in Seattle.

Heritage Distilling Co. in Gig Harbor and Spokane-based Peddlers Pond received the small-company honors.

First Federal allots eight paid hours per employee per year for community service.

Secretary of State Kim Wyman presented the four companies with a National Association of Secretaries of State Medallion Award during a recent ceremony in her office at the Capitol.

Six additional companies received honor roll certificates for their community efforts.

They included Black Bear Diner of Sequim, Toledo Telephone Communication Co., U.S. Martial Arts Center, Seattle-based West Monroe Partners LLC, Windermere Real Estate Services Co. in Camano Island and Shree Investments Inc. in George/Moses Lake.

Hospitalist joins practice in Sequim

SEQUIM — Dr. Jennifer Swanson will join Sequim Medical Associates on Feb. 17.

Swanson has been a hospitalist at Olympic Medical Center for the past six years and is board-certified in internal medicine.

She is accepting new patients and is credentialed with most major insurance companies.
