PORT ANGELES — The law firm of Platt Irwin, 403 S. Peabody St., has recently hired two new attorneys.

Allison Mahaney graduated from Lewis & Clark Law School with a certificate in environmental and natural resources law.

She worked as an intern at the Port of Portland, Ore., and the Eighth Coast Guard District Legal Office in New Orleans.

She is returning with her family to the North Olympic Peninsula, where she served as operations coordinator from 2007 to 2010 with the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary.

David Berger graduated summa cum laude from Seattle University School of Law in 2014, ranking second in his class.

After law school, Berger worked as a law clerk for Justice Susan J. Owens at the Washington Supreme Court.

David and his wife, Tien, are moving to the area.

Business expands

SEQUIM — Via Vita Chiropractic & Wellness, 128 W. Bell St., welcomes new yoga teacher and Reiki master Renzo Reyes to the wellness center.

Reyes is a certified yoga instructor from Orange County, Calif.

He spent the past four months at Shoshoni, a yoga retreat in Colorado, teaching yoga, learning more about meditation and cooking vegetarian food.

He will teach level 1 yoga classes and restorative yoga with reiki.

Home health

PORT ANGELES — Olympic Medical Home Health (OMHH) was recognized for the 10th year in a row by HomeCare Elite, a national review that identifies the top 25 percent of all Medicare-certified home health agencies.

Just 131 organizations nationwide have earned a HomeCare Elite award every year since the inception of the award in 2006, according to a news release.

OMHH is among 22 Home­Care Elite winners in the state of Washington.

“This recognition is a result of our dedicated and caring staff that provides quality nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapy, social work and home health aide services to our patients,” said Joan Warren, director of Olympic Medical Home Health.

The public is invited to an open house at OMHH’s new location at 801 E. Front St. to celebrate 10 years of award-winning care.

The event will be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, with a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m.

CAPS designation

SEQUIM — Boni Osborn of By Design Group Inc. has earned the Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) designation to remodel or modify a home to meet the needs of homeowners or their visitors who may be physically challenged.

The National Association of Home Builders, in partnership with the AARP and NAHB Research Center, created the CAPS program to provide universal home modifications.

By Design Group Inc. is a general contractor specializing in “aging in place” and universal design/remodeling and features Best Bath System’s barrier-free walk-in bathtubs and low-threshold showers designed for people of all abilities.

Graduates are required to maintain their designation by attending continuing education programs as well as participating in community service projects.
