EYE ON JEFFERSON: County eyes noise control ordinance

Published 12:01 am Monday, December 22, 2014

The three Jefferson County commissioners will consider finalizing a noise control ordinance when they meet Monday.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

Once finalized, the proposed ordinance will be submitted to the state Department of Ecology, which has 90 days to issue a recommendation.

If that agency approves the ordinance, the commissioners will consider its ratification.

The purpose of the ordinance is to define what types of noises constitute a public disturbance and to control noises that disrupt the rural way of life.

The commissioners also are scheduled to present a certificate of appreciation to outgoing Prosecuting Attorney Scott Rosekrans for his service.

In the afternoon session beginning at 1:30 p.m., county employees and the public will honor Commissioner John Austin, who is retiring.

Items on the consent agenda include:

■ A license agreement between the county and the Jefferson County Humane Society for operation of the animal shelter in 2016.

■ A bid award for the purchase of liquid asphalt products in the amount of $263,717 awarded to Albina Asphalt Products.

■ Two applicants seeking to have property reclassified under the Open Space Tax Program.

All county offices will close at noon Wednesday and remain closed through Christmas Day.
