NEWS BRIEFS — RSVP needed by Saturday for meeting of single seniors in Port Townsend . . . and other items

PORT TOWNSEND — Senior Singles will meet at Alchemy Bistro & Wine Bar, 842 Washington St., at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1.

The menu is European-inspired. Entrees includes fresh seafood, lamb, steaks and more between $15 and $29 and come with vegetable and starch.

Starter salads are priced from $6 to $10. Various specials are offered Saturday evenings.

Happy in the wine bar is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Community dinner

SEQUIM — A free community dinner will be served at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The meal includes baked chicken, rice, vegetables, fruit salad, desserts and beverages.

Reservations, which are requested, can be made by phoning the church at 360-683-5367 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before the dinner or by emailing dinners@sequimtumc.org.

The church presents the dinners the last Thursday of each month.

Abundant life focus of talk this Sunday

PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics, 2917 E. Myrtle St., will hold a 10:30 a.m. service Sunday with guest speaker the Rev. Charles Mawson.

The lesson is “12 Powers: Spiritual Tools for an Abundant Life.”

The talk will focus on the powers of faith and wisdom and how to put these powers to work to create a dream life.

Mawson was ordained by the Community Miracles Center in San Francisco and trained as a prayer chaplain by Unity.

Free child care is available during the service.

A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

On Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m., Anton Mizerak and Laura Berryhill will present a concert of transformational music, “Connect with Your Soul: Meditation Music, Sanskrit Chant, Celtic Song.”

A love offering will be taken at this event.

Blessing of tartans

PORT TOWNSEND — A special Kirkin’ o’ Tartans will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1111 Franklin St., on Sunday during the 10 a.m. worship service.

Bagpiper Art Brown will play while Chieftain Le Hornbeck recognizes participants’ Scottish and Irish clans of origin.

Worshippers are encouraged to wear their clan’s tartan.

Scottish scones and shortbread will be served in the Fellowship Hall after the service.

Sunday Assembly

PORT TOWNSEND — Sunday Assembly will gather at the Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St., from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

The group’s motto is “Live Better, Help Often and Wonder More.”

There will be singing of pop songs, a talk and coffee and cake to follow.

Taize service

SEQUIM — All are welcome to the ecumenical Taize service at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., at 7 p.m. Monday.

There will be a meditative, candlelit atmosphere that includes singing simple, repetitive songs during the hourlong service.

Taize will continue to be held the fourth Monday of each month.

Divorce help group

SEQUIM — Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave., is offering DivorceCare, a weekly seminar/support group that meets from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays.

DivorceCare features biblical principles for healing after a marriage breakup.

Fall mission talks

SEQUIM — St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple St., will host its fall mission, “Work Out Your Salvation,” from Monday through Thursday.

The mission talks will follow the morning Mass at 8:30 a.m. and be repeated at 7 p.m.

Father Wade Menezes, C.P.M. (Fathers of Mercy), will lead the mission. Topics each day are “Be Faithful to Daily Duty,” “Be Other Centered,” “Understand the Reality of Vice and Virtue” and “Practice and Live the Sacraments.”

Confessions will follow each session, and a free-will offering will be taken Thursday.

Menezes received his dual Masters of Arts and Divinity in theology at Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, Conn. He has appeared on the Eternal Word Catholic Television Network.

PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Marine Resources Committee will meet at the Port of Port Townsend commissioners’ building, 333 Benedict St., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4.
