WEEKEND: Halloween events scare up fun across Peninsula

The North Olympic Peninsula is a veritable cornucopia of Halloween activities this weekend and next, with offerings for kids, parents, the young at heart — and even pets.

SEQUIM

Pumpkin party, fair

SEQUIM — The Sequim Prairie Grange’s annual Pumpkin Party and Country Fair will be Saturday at the grange, 290 Macleay Road.

The children’s Pumpkin Party starts at 4 p.m. in the Glenda Clark Memorial Outdoor Kitchen, with pumpkin carving and sugar-cookie decorating.

The “grange ladies” will open the kitchen to serve beef stew, hot dogs, hamburgers and potato salad.

The country fair starts at 5 p.m., with games, face painting, a cake walk and a white elephant table.

Haunted Hallways

SEQUIM — The Sequim High School’s Associated Student Body will host the annual Haunted Hallways event at the H Building, 601 N. Sequim Ave., from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Parents and grandparents can bring children dressed in costumes for Halloween activities.

Admission is free, but canned food donations will be added to the high school’s annual October food drive to benefit the Sequim Food Bank.

Casino Halloween party

SEQUIM — 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, will hold a Halloween costume party from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday.

There is no cover, and the event is for those 21 and older.

The costume contest starts at 11 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Notorious 253 will provide entertainment.

Church festival slated

SEQUIM — Dungeness Community Church, 45 Eberle Lane, will host a free fall festival from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Games with candy as prizes are planned, along with a chili cook-off and pie-baking contest.

There will be live music and a storytime, with a reading of Halloween: Is It For Real? by Harold Myra.

Costumes are encouraged.

Abbott and Costello

SEQUIM — A free screening of “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein” will be held at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

The movie will show in the library meeting room.

Released in 1948, the film follows Abbott and Costello as they encounter such monstrosities as the Wolf Man, Dracula, Frankenstein and the Invisible Man.

Boys & Girls Cub party

SEQUIM — The Sequim Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St., will hold a Halloween party from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Kids and parents are invited to partake in a haunted house, games, a scary movie screening and a night of dancing with a DJ.

The club is also offering pizza and pop to attendees.

Admission is $1. Proceeds benefit the club.

Cub Scout party

SEQUIM — The Cub Scout Pack 4490 will host a Halloween party at First Baptist Church, 1323 Sequim-Dungeness way, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

There’s a free spooky house, a cake walk and games for children through fifth grade.

SEQUIM — Faith Lutheran Church, 382 W. Cedar St., will hold the Hallow’d Eve Harvest Festival from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.

Silent movies

SEQUIM — Nourish, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., will host Halloween silent movies to music at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.

A montage of classic silent movies from the 1930s will be accompanied by live music.

Treats will be given to those who come in costume.

SARC Monster Bash

SEQUIM — The Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center, 610 N. Fifth Ave., will offer an alternative to trick-or-treating at the fifth annual Halloween Monster Bash from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.

The event will feature a range of activities in addition to dance exercise.

Zumba, salsa, Bokwa Fitness and Hot Hula Fitness sessions, plus an “Old Skool Dance Party,” will be led by dance fitness instructors from throughout the Olympic Peninsula.

Halloween-themed face and henna painting, fresh popcorn, balloon animals and the Laff Pack clowns round out the event.

Entry to the Monster Bash is $5, with free admission for kids 12 and younger.

Trunk or treat

SEQUIM — First Baptist Church, 1323 Sequim-Dungeness Way, will hold a “trunk or treat” event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.

Children will trick-or-treat from cars in the church’s parking lots.

The event is appropriate for children through fifth grade.

LARC Gallery party

SEQUIM — The LARC Gallery, 425 E. Washington St., will host a Halloween party from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.

The event is free, and refreshments and drinks will be served.

There will be door prizes for the following:

■ Best “famous, historical artist” costume.

■ Best “hysterical” artist costume.

■ Best “nonart-related” costume.

This event also is the opening night of the gallery’s “4-D” art show, “Daring, Dastardly & Definitely Different.”

Those who wish to perform a solo or group rendition of “Monster Mash” will get the chance to win a free T-shirt.

Church’s ‘trunk or treat’

SEQUIM — Olympic View Church of God, located on the corner of North Brown Road and East Fir Street, will host its fifth annual “trunk or treat” from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.

More than 15 decorated vehicles will be in the parking lots for trick-or-treating.

Brinnon Fall Festival

BRINNON — The Brinnon Parent-Teacher Organization will hold its annual Fall Festival Carnival in the Brinnon School gymnasium, 46 Schoolhouse Road, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. today.

There will be food and games including a cake walk, bakery bingo, balloon pop and more.

All are encouraged to come in costume.

Admission is free, and game tickets are 25 cents a piece.

Family Halloween

BRINNON — A Brinnon Family Halloween Party will be held at the Brinnon Community Center, 306144 U.S. Highway 101, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

There will be homemade pizza, cookies, games and prizes for all ages.

Quilcene center’s party

QUILCENE — The Quilcene Community Center, 294952 U.S. Highway 101, will kick off its free seventh annual Halloween party with a “Zombie Run” at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.

There will be games, prizes, food and photos.

All ages are welcome.

Costume contests for best costume, best family costume and more will be held.

Key City dance party

PORT TOWNSEND — Key City Public Theatre will present a Halloween costume party with the Toolshed Trio and DJ Moody at 419 Washington St. from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday, Oct. 31.

“The Dance to Raise the Dead” features a costume contest, door prizes and drink specials.

Admission is $7.

The Toolshed Trio plays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., and DJ Moody spins from 10 p.m. to midnight.

Dry Creek Oktoberfest

PORT ANGELES — An Oktoberfest celebration is slated from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Dry Creek Elementary School, 25 Rife Road.

Admission is free.

There will be a free Zumba dance party, fake tattoos by the Dry Creek Parent-Teacher Organization, pumpkin and face painting for $1, plus a root-beer float garden, hot dogs and snacks.

Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes, and a prize will be given out for best costume.

College dance slated

PORT ANGELES — A Halloween dance will be held in Peninsula College’s Pirate Union Building on campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., from 9 p.m. to midnight today.

Teens and college students are welcome. Admission is $3 for Peninsula College students and $5 for guests.

Music for the dance is by DJ O.B.1.

Candy Land fall event

PORT ANGELES — Lighthouse Christian Center, 304 Viewcrest Ave., will hold its annual Candy Land fall event from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Free admission is offered to each attendee who brings a bag of wrapped candy.

The event’s offerings include free candy, games, giant inflatables, face painting and laser tag.

There is a rock-climbing wall for an added fee.

Food will be available for purchase from the church kitchen, and the church cafe will offer assorted beverages.

Boo Bash Party

FORKS — A Halloween Boo Bash Costume Party will be held at the Forks Elks Lodge, 941 Merchants Road, from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Nov. 1.

Admission is $15 per person and includes dinner and dancing.

There’s a cash prize for best costume, a silent auction and a 50/50 drawing.

Halloween Carnival

NORDLAND — The sixth annual Halloween Carnival, sponsored by the Friends of Fort Flagler, will be held at the park, 10541 Flagler Road, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and Saturday.

Admission is $7 per person or $25 for a group of four.

The carnival features “The Portal of Peril,” “Trick-or-Treat Street,” carnival games and zombie-themed hay rides.

Ghost tours of historical buildings and areas of the park are at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. for a suggested donation of $5.

Discover Passes are not required for this event.
