THE MOON PASSED between the Earth and the sun on Thursday afternoon, creating a partial solar eclipse across most of North America.

On the North Olympic Peninsula, skies were just clear enough to see it for a time, before the rain set in again.

Here’s a photo from Port Angeles reader Linda Button:

“I realized that the rain had stopped for this narrow opportunity.  I put a solar lens from my telescope over the camera lens and started to take pictures.

“Of the 10 or so pictures, this is the only one that turned out.”

Linda’s photo was taken at 3:14:02 p.m. Thursday (shortly after the partial eclipse reached its maximum).
