PORT ANGELES — Two people used the sunroof to escape their vehicle after the car left the roadway, shearing a telephone pole in half and rolling over Monday.
According to Clallam County Fire District No. 2, responders to the single-car rollover crash found the 2006 Infinity off the roadway resting on its side with power lines brought down by the vehicle.
The driver and the single passenger had already climbed out of the vehicle through the sunroof when responders reached the scene at the intersection of Black Diamond and Wellman roads at 6:13 a.m., according to a news release.
The occupants of the car were not identified.
The driver said a deer ran out in front of him, causing him to swerve and lose control of the car.
The vehicle left the road, cut a telephone pole in half and went down a small embankment, rolling over and landing on its side, the news release stated.
The female passenger was transported to Olympic Medical Center, and the driver was taken into custody by the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office for investigation of driving under the influence.
Black Diamond Road was closed to traffic for about three hours because of the downed power lines.
Two medical units, an engine and a command vehicle responded to the crash.
