PORT HADLOCK — Jefferson County Library, 620 Cedar Ave., will begin offering after-school programs every Thursday afternoon for pre-teens and teens ages 11 to 18 and for children ages 6 to 11.

Teen programs will begin at 2:45 p.m. Kids will join in from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

The programs will rotate themes for each week. The first Thursday of each month will have the theme of Game Time. The second will be books and arts, and the third is literacy and a teen writers club.

The fourth Thursday will provide leadership training with a teen advisory group for ages 11-18, as well as a kids’ ddvisory group specifically for fourth- and fifth-graders.

For months with a fifth Thursday, the theme will be HOMAGO, or Hanging Out, Messing Around and Goofing Off.

The Teen Writers Club runs from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. for ages 11-18 and will be led by Jolie Stekly, a freelance writer and novelist.

Stekly is an instructor for the University of Washington’s Continuing Education Certificate program in Writing for Children. A former classroom teacher, Stekly now teaches writing to kids of all ages.

Another special Thursday program will be held Nov. 20, at 3:30 p.m. when everyone is invited to meet with Erica Bauermeister, author of Let’s Hear It for the Girls: 375 Great Books for Readers 2-14, as she presents books with strong, brilliant and occasionally outrageous female characters.
