PA, Forks, Jefferson chambers schedule candidate forums

Among the upcoming candidate forums that have been announced are four at North Olympic Peninsula chambers of commerce meetings.

Ballots for the Nov. 4 general election are to be mailed to registered voters on Oct. 15.

Port Angeles Regional

The Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a candidate forum for 24th Legislative District candidates at noon today.

Incumbent Steve Tharinger, a Democrat from Sequim, and challenger Thomas Greisamer, a Republican from Moclips, will speak at the meeting in the second floor of the Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St.

The 24th District covers Clallam and Jefferson counties and part of Grays Harbor County.

Tickets for the luncheon are $15 and can be purchased from the meeting room cashier. Those not having lunch are charged a $3 participation fee that includes a beverage.

Forks chamber

The Forks Chamber of Commerce plans a forum between the candidates for Clallam County prosecuting attorney at JT’s Sweet Stuffs, 80 N. Forks Ave., at noon Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Appointed Prosecuting Attorney Will Payne and former Chief Deputy Prosecutor Mark Nichols, both Republicans, will tell their views.

Lunch costs $8; a bowl of soup, $4.99; and a cup of soup, $3.99.

Jefferson County

Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce will host a sheriff candidate forum at 555 Otto St., Port Townsend, at noon Monday, Oct. 20.

Wendy Davis and David Stanko are running for the position vacated by former sheriff Tony Hernandez.

Both candidates are Democrats. Davis, a Port Ludlow resident, was endorsed by the county party. Stanko, who lives in Cape George has since said that he plans to become an independent.

Davis worked as a sergeant in the Bremerton Police Department and as first a deputy chief, then a sergeant in the Poulsbo Police Department.

She now is a human resources officer for Port Ludlow Associates.

Stanko retired as a lieutenant from the Fullerton Police Department in California.

At noon on Monday, Oct. 27, the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce will host a forum featuring candidates for the county commission District 3 seat.

Democrat Kathleen Kler, a retired nurse, and Dan Toepper, a retired heavy-equipment operator with no party preference, are vying to succeed Democrat John Austin, who is retiring after two terms.

The weekly Port Townsend Leader will moderate and the League of Women Voters of Jefferson County will conduct the timing.
