BUSINESS BRIEFS — Peninsula Daily News owner buys paper in Aberdeen . . . and other items

ABERDEEN — Sound Publishing Inc., owner of the Peninsula Daily News and 37 other daily and non-daily newspapers in the state, acquired The Daily World of Aberdeen and three other Grays Harbor County newspapers Wednesday.
Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
“We feel quite fortunate to add the Aberdeen cluster of quality news products to Sound Publishing,” said Gloria Fletcher, Sound president.
“Of course, we value the products, but more importantly, we value the people and the communities these products faithfully serve.”
In addition to the thrice-weekly Daily World, Sound also acquired the weekly Montesano Vidette, the North Coast News of Ocean Shores and the South Beach Bulletin.
They join a newspaper group that includes, in addition to the PDN, the weekly Sequim Gazette and Forks Forum, The Daily Herald of Everett and Seattle Weekly.
Sound Publishing Inc. is a subsidiary of Victoria-based Black Press Ltd., which also acquired daily newspapers in Hilo and Kona, Hawaii, on Wednesday.
All the purchases were from Stephens Media of Las Vegas.
Newcomers’ Club
SEQUIM — The Newcomers’ Club of the Olympic Peninsula will hold its October luncheon in The Cedars at Dungeness Legend Room, 1965 Woodcock Road, on Tuesday.
Socializing begins at 11:30 a.m. and will be followed by a buffet lunch.
Aerospace engineer Duane Jensen will give a presentation on asteroids.
