PORT ANGELES — A workshop about game design for young people is planned at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today.
The free workshop for those from 12 to 18 years old is part of the Spark a Reaction summer reading program set at public libraries throughout Clallam County this summer through Aug. 2.
Today’s workshop offers participants the opportunity to learn about game design, including 3-D tools with world creation and programming and basic 2-D online game design tools.
A limited number of computers are available. Students are encouraged to bring their own electronic device (such as a laptop or tablet) if they have them.
This and other Spark a Reaction workshops for young adults will be facilitated by Sequim Middle School science teacher Caleb Gentry.
Space is limited, so pre-registration is recommended.
To register, visit www.nols.org, email youth@nols.org or phone 360-417-8500, ext. 7705.
Young adults can participate in Spark a Reaction by signing up at any North Olympic Library System branch — which includes the Sequim, Forks and Clallam Bay libraries as well as the Port Angeles Library — and reading at least three books before Saturday, Aug. 2.
Each teen who reads at least three books will receive a free book of his or her choice and be entered for the grand prize drawing for a Netbook.
Teens also can be entered into the grand prize drawing by attending this workshop series and doing other activities detailed on the game cards available at any of the libraries.
