PORT ANGELES — Libby Wagner likes to address unexpected questions.

What happens when a poet walks in to a business?

How does literature help a young person navigate the world of work?

Why do Fortune 500 companies bring in artists to work with their leaders?

Wagner, a former English instructor at Peninsula College, will explore these in her free lecture, “The Poetry of Persuasion: Why Poetry Matters to Business Leaders, Students and Ordinary Folk,” on Thursday.

She’ll step up for this Foothills Writers Series program at 12:30 p.m. in the Little Theater at Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

A poet and businesswoman based in Seattle, Wagner has advised CEOs and executive directors and has worked with Fortune 500 clients, including Boeing Co., Nike and Costco.

She’s a specialist in how the arts can be woven into commerce, a member of the Million Dollar Consulting Hall of Fame and the holder of a master of fine arts in poetry.

Her books include The Influencing Option: The Art of Building a Profit Culture in Business; two poetry collections titled Like This, Like That and Somehow; and the soon-to-be published The Poetry of Persuasion.
