PORT ANGELES — The United Way of Clallam County reported last week that it was nearly a quarter of the way to its fundraising goal.
The United Way, which supports 23 nonprofits in the county and several of its own initiatives, has set a $1 million goal for its annual fund drive this year.
As of Thursday, $241,376, or 24 percent, has been received from 673 donors, said Jody Moss, executive director.
This Thursday, United Way will mail donation invitations to residents and businesses in Clallam County.
“This mailing is intended to reach people who may not give through a workplace, who are new to the community or are retired,” Moss said.
“It is not a request for a second gift.”
In addition to allocating funds to partner agencies, United Way also has Community Solutions Initiatives, including Great Beginnings for early childhood education, a literacy program, access to health care program and the 2-1-1 help line.
Last year, community members donated $900,960, Moss said.
“More than 63,000 people benefited from services provided by United Way and our agencies, engaging 6,800 volunteers who gave 233,000 hours of service valued at close to $4.8 million,” said Don Bradley, president of the United Way board.
“We know that members of Clallam County communities are extremely generous, and this is a time for those who are able to give as generously as possible,” said Buck Gieseke, owner of Integrity One Mortgage and chairman of this year’s campaign.
This year is United Way’s 61st anniversary in Clallam County.
