Port Angeles Compassion Games begin today

PORT ANGELES — Let the Compassion Games begin.

Today marks the kickoff of 11 days dedicated to promoting compassionate action throughout Port Angeles and the surrounding community, said Mindy Aisling, one of the coordinators of the effort along with Kristin Halberg.

People can take part in the Compassion Games by performing random acts of kindness throughout the 11-day period and by attending programs held as part of the Compassion Games effort, Aisling said.

Compassionate acts can be logged and tracked at www.compassiongames.org.

People can also sign up to be “secret agents” of compassion and receive via email a compassionate action to complete each day, Aisling said.

The idea for the Compassion Games started in Louisville, Ky., Aisling said, when residents logged more than 90,000 compassionate acts during a one-week period in April.

Since then, other cities, such as Seattle, have taken up the Compassion Games challenge, and Aisling and Halberg want to put Port Angeles on the map in terms of compassionate acts.

“It [is] really in alignment with the way that I feel and a lot of work that I do with my clients,” said Aisling, who works as a life coach in Port Angeles.

Aisling and Halberg also organized a love letters campaign in February in which letters were left in downtown locations.
