OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Four distance swimmers completed an 8.9-mile swim of Lake Crescent today by arriving at Fairholme at the lake’s western shore at 11:35 a.m.

The four — Kathy Beirne, Shawn Delplain, Howie Ruddell and Todd Clayton — walked ashore four-abreast and smiling after completing the swim.

They took off from the eastern shore of the lake at 6:12 a.m.

The four made the swim to call attention for donations to the Captain Joseph House Foundation, a Port Angeles nonprofit to create a bed-and-breakfast-style respite for families of service members who died in action.
