Lavender Farm Faire seeks helpers for big July weekend

SEQUIM — Scores of volunteers are needed for the Lavender Farm Faire, part of the Sequim Lavender Weekend from July 19-21.

Applications are being accepted, and volunteers must attend one training session and work at least one four-hour shift.

The perks of volunteering include a Lavender Farm Faire T-shirt, a free lavender plant and a button that gets the worker in to all of the farms on the faire’s tour: Jardin du Soleil, Victor’s Lavender & Nursery, Lost Mountain Lavender, Olympic Lavender Farm, Washington Lavender Farm and Purple Haze Lavender.

In August, there’s a volunteer appreciation potluck when the Lavender Farmers Association provides the meat and side dish, and everyone’s invited to bring more food and drink to enjoy.

“We have more than 300 shifts to fill with volunteers,” said coordinator Melissa Murray.

Workers greet visitors at the farms, sell buttons, help set up and tear down displays, and help at Lavender in the Park, the fair at Carrie Blake Park in Sequim.

“We have leadership opportunities for those who want to be more involved,” Murray said.

The Lavender Farm Faire, presented by the Sequim Lavender Farmers Association, is part of the Sequim Lavender Weekend, which also includes the Sequim Lavender Growers’ Lavender Festival.

In addition to the farm faire tour and Lavender in the Park, the growers’ downtown Street Fair and free six-farm tour also take place from July 19-21.
