WEEKEND: Port Townsend’s AAUW branch to award scholarships

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend branch of the American Association of University Women Foundation will present the Elmira K. Beyer Endowed Scholarship on Saturday.

The meeting is set for Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2333 San Juan Ave., at 9:30 a.m.

Current and prospective members and guests are welcome.

The winner of the Beyer scholarship will receive $8,000, with runners-up each receiving $2,500.

One graduating senior girl from both Chimacum and Port Townsend high schools will receive a $1,500 scholarship.

Proceeds from AAUW’s Kitchen Tour fund the high school scholarships as well as AAUW programs in area schools.

STEM winners

Winners of the high school STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) awards will be announced.

Each of the nine STEM award winners will receive a $100 gift certificate.

Middle school representatives of the Tech Trek summer camp also will be acknowledged.

In addition, AAUW officers for 2013-2014 will be elected and installed.

A DVD prepared by branch member Lynne Bennett to celebrate the branch’s 65th anniversary will be shown.

AAUW membership is open to women who hold an associate degree or higher from a qualified educational institution.
