Gardening lecture to focus on birds in Sequim

SEQUIM — “Spring Gardening for Birds,” the sixth in the series of eight classes in “Backyard Birding” will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The class will be at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road.
Ron Sikes of Admiralty Audubon in Port Townsend will provide information about preparing garden settings and plants that may attract migrating and resident birds.
Following the presentation, participants are invited to tour McComb Gardens to see a variety of garden areas and plants available in the Pacific Northwest.
The series of classes, hosted by members of the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society, is intended for area residents interested in knowing more about birds seen locally each season of the year and learning how to develop good habitats for wild birds.
“Backyard Birding” can be taken either as individual classes or in a series.
The cost of each session is $5 and is free for anyone younger than 18.
After the completion of five sessions, participants will be offered free membership in Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society for one year.
Two classes remain this spring: May 18 is “Enjoying Spring Sounds” presented by Dow Lambert and Ken Wiersema; and June 8 is “Birds Out of the Nest” with Ken Wiersema describing what life is like for young birds in your yard and garden.
