Veterans group seeks van drivers for trips to Seattle

PORT ANGELES — Volunteer drivers are needed for the Disabled American Veterans vans that take veterans to Veterans Administration hospitals in Seattle.
Van trips are made five days a week, leaving the Veterans Center, 216 S. Francis St., at 5 a.m. and the VA Hospital at 1:30 p.m.
A total of 1,100 veterans were driven by 51 drivers last year.
Volunteers must have a clean driving record and be able to pass a background check and a physical, as well as undergo training.
The cost of the background check and the physical is covered by Disabled American Veterans.
Volunteers can participate as little as once a month.
Insurance is provided along a designated route.
To request an application, phone Venay Money in Port Angeles at 360-457-5251 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. or stop by the Disabled American Veterans office at 216 S. Francis St. between Monday and Friday.
