Fulbright Scholar to present free lectures in Port Angeles beginning today

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College’s Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence, Sandep Kandhwal of India, will present free lectures beginning today.

The lectures today, Tuesday and Thursday will be on the Peninsula College Port Angeles campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

The first of today’s lectures, “Wildlife & Biodiversity of India,” will be from 9:10 a.m. to 10:10 a.m. in Room J-47.

Kandhwal will present it with Peninsula College biology instructor Barbara Blackie.

The second, “Religion, Caste System and Culture of India,” will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Room M-125.

On Tuesday, Kandhwal will speak on “Challenges of Modern India” from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Room J-47.

On Thursday, “International Exchange Highlights” will be presented with Chinese exchange professor Qingyun “Sue” Shu from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Room J-47.

Kandhwal is an associate professor in zoology and the senior-most member of the faculty at Government College, Safidon, Jind, which is affiliated with Kurukshetra University in India.

He is also a permanent and confirmed employee of the Government of Haryana.

He has presented research papers at several national and international conferences, including ones held in Germany, France, Switzerland and the United States.

His work also has been widely published in a number of scholarly journals.

Among the many awards he has received is a certificate of merit in the National Service Scheme program, run by the government of India, from Kurukshetra University.

He earned a bachelor’s from Government College, Jind, and master’s of science and philosophy and a doctorate from Kurukshetra University.
