Introduction to genealogy in Sequim on Wednesday

Published 12:01 am Tuesday, March 5, 2013

SEQUIM — An introduction to genealogy will be presented at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The free program, Genealogy Basics, will be at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

It will be presented by Renee Mizar, executive assistant and spokeswoman for the Museum & Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley who is also a member of the Washington State Genealogical Society and several lineage societies and family associations.

Mizar, who has been an avid genealogist since her teenage years, will draw on her own success in using online resources to trace and document her ancestry.

She will discuss topics including genealogy message boards, forums for family history research, and the website Ancestry.com, which is now available free at the library.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Mizar, who has a professional background in print journalism, has traced her ancestry to Ellis Island, the Mormon Trail, the American Revolution, the Massachusetts Bay Colony and the Mayflower.

She leads a monthly genealogy discussion group at the Museum & Arts Center, and is an active contributor to Findagrave.com.
