WEEKEND: Winter Wildlands film festival set Saturday

PORT ANGELES — The eighth annual Winter Wildlands Alliance Backcountry Film Festival will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The event, a benefit for members of the Olympic Peninsula Boys & Girls Clubs’ Hurricane Chasers program, will be at Wine on the Waterfront, 115 E. Railroad Ave.
Admission is $10 at the door.
The evening will include a raffle and live auction of winter gear.
Hurricane Chasers combines snowboard instruction with a winter science curriculum to create lifelong winter sports enthusiasts out of area students.
The program has received a $2,500 grant from the North Face Explore Fund, but more funding will provide the opportunity for more participants.
Seven films
This year’s program includes seven films:
■ “Skiing the Void,” a reflection on taking chances during a two-year odyssey in the Andes.
■ “Further,” in which Jeremy Jones and friends push the limits of their mountain experience under their own power.
■ “Alaska Wilderness Classic,” an epic trip across the wild.
■ “A Story of Trust,” a call for climate recovery from a 9-year-old activist.
■ “Denali Experiment,” a look at a different type of expedition film.
■ “Freedom Chair,” an athlete’s journey back to the slopes.
■ “Unicorn Sashimi,” which highlights the winter snowscapes of Japan.
