PORT ANGELES — A new addition to the Clallam County Historical Society’s collection is the official portrait, gown and tiara of the Port Angeles centennial queen.
On Dec. 29, 1961, Karyn Anne Kunkel, sponsored by the Go Kart Club, was crowned the Port Angeles centennial queen.
She reigned over all centennial activities for 1962.
“Karyn lives out of the area now, but when she learned Port Angeles was celebrating its sesquicentennial, she wanted her centennial treasures to return to Port Angeles,” said Kathy Monds, historical society executive director.
Kunkel told Monds that she still fits in the gown.
The donations are on display at the Museum at the Carnegie, 207 S. Lincoln St., which is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
