Early birthday surprise for soon-to-be 94-year-old

PORT ANGELES — Ruth Anderson, who will turn 94 on Sept. 29, was surprised earlier this week with an early birthday greeting from California.

Her nephew, Tom Panard, a member of the California-based Victor Valley Vets auto club, convinced a caravan of fellow car collectors to stop by Anderson’s home on North Jones Street in Port Angeles on Tuesday.

They sang a quick version of “Happy Birthday” before continuing their journey to Port Townsend on the club’s “Wromp Wround Washington” tour.

Anderson said she was caught off-guard by the surprise stop and the sight of eight Chevrolet Corvettes parked in front of her Port Angeles residence.

Panard said the quick stop was important.

“It’s a natural to stop to see my aunt,” he said.
