Phelps and Soni among 3 U.S. swimmers winning gold medals

Michael Phelps won the gold and Ryan Lochte won the silver in the 200-meter individual medley.

Tyler Clary upset the favorite Ryan Lochte in the 200-meter backstroke. Rebecca Soni won the 200-meter breaststroke with a record time.

In the 100-meter freestyle, Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands won. Missy Franklin did not win a medal.
