Young woman commits suicide in leap from Eighth Street bridge in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — A young woman jumped to her death off the west Eighth Street bridge on Tuesday night, Port Angeles police said.

The suicide was reported at 9:25 p.m. at 700 W. Eighth Street, Port Angeles.

The woman, who has not been identified, was in her late teens or early 20s, Port Angeles Police Sgt. Barb McFall said.

A passerby ran down to the scene and found the woman deceased.

“She was dead when they got there,” McFall said.

McFall said the woman landed on the south side of the bridge, which spans the Tumwater Truck Route.

Police also reported a separate suicide threat from the area earlier that day. It was not the same person, McFall said.
