SEQUIM — A 72-year-old Sequim woman hiked her way to safety this morning after spending nearly a day alone in Olympic National Forest.

Suk-Seong Chan walked to the Slab Camp trailhead off of Lost Mountain Road at 8:30 a.m.

She had been missing since 11:30 a.m. Wednesday when she became separated from her hiking group.

The trail is located near Olympic National Park.

The park kept a ranger at the trailhead until Chan appeared, said park spokesman Dave Reynolds.

A nine-person search team was deployed shortly before she was found, he said.

Reynolds said she was in good spirits and didn’t appear to need medical attention.
