OLYMPIA — Despite a warming trend expected to begin today, travel this holiday weekend may still be hazardous, especially on mountain passes, where forecasts call for more than a foot of new snow by Friday, the state Department of Transportation said Wednesday.

Real-time traffic information is available at www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic or by phoning 5-1-1

Drivers also can prepare for winter weather by packing cold-weather supplies and tire chains, Transportation said.

Ferries

The Port Townsend-Coupeville ferry will be on its normal weekday sailing schedule today.

State ferry routes on a holiday schedule today include Point Defiance-Tahlequah, Seattle-Bainbridge Island and Mukilteo-Clinton.
