PORT ANGELES — The city of Port Angeles’ property tax levy will increase by 1 percent in 2011.

The City Council approved the increase, which will raise the city’s property tax revenue by about $40,000, unanimously Tuesday.

The levy is the amount the city will receive from property taxes. That amount for 2011, as set by the council, is $4,087,563.

Based on 2010 property values, the city’s increase will cost the owner of a $200,000 home another $4.52 next year.

State law limits property tax levies to the rate of inflation or 1 percent, whichever is lower.

But since the City Council didn’t raise its property tax levy last year, it could have raised it by 2 percent for 2011.

Yvonne Ziomkowski, city finance director, told the council that inflation sits at 1.5 percent.
