PORT ANGELES — The two candidates for Clallam County treasurer, incumbent Judith Scott and challenger Selinda Barkhuis, are scheduled to appear in a forum sponsored by the Port Angeles Business Association on Tuesday.

Scott, who was appointed by county commissioners to fill a vacancy in 2004, is seeking her second full four-year term.

Barkhuis, a senior planner in the county Department of Community Development and a nonpracticing attorney, is challenging her in the fall election.

Ballot in the Nov. 2 all-mail general election will be mailed to registered voters on Oct. 13.

Principal issue in the race is the “misappropriation” of more than $617,000 from the county treasury, allegedly stolen by a former Treasurer’s Office employee.

Tuesday’s PABA breakfast meeting, open to the public, begins at 7:30 a.m. at Joshua’s Restaurant, 113 DelGuzzi Drive, Port Angeles.

There is a $2.16 minimum charge by Joshua’s for those who do not order breakfast.
