Two men were transported to Olympic Medical Center this morning to be treated for hypothermia after their boat capsized in the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Their 19-foot aluminum fishing boat capsized at about 10:30 a.m. due to high winds near the mouth of the Lyre River, said Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputy Jef Boyd.

The two men, in their 60s and 70s, were picked up by a couple friends that were in another boat nearby, he said.

Boyd said they were both in the water for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Their names have not been released.
