Canister warning issued for North Olympic Peninsula beaches

OLYMPIA — The state Ecology Department says people cleaning up Washington coastal beaches on Saturday should watch out for silver canisters that could have poisonous contents.

Some of these 1 liter containers were found last year along the Northwest coast. They carried a pesticide used on cargo ships and were apparently thrown overboard.

Removing the plastic lid could release a toxic gas. Empty canisters without lids can be recycled.
