CARLSBORG — A 25-year-old Sequim man was killed early today when the car he was driving collided head-on with another that had crossed the centerline.

The Washington State Patrol identified him as Benjamin Michael Merscher, who was driving a 1998 Honda Civic sedan eastbound on U.S. Highway 101 just west of Kitchen-Dick Road when a westbound 2001 Volkswagen Golf driven by Engre Louise Brown, 27, of Sequim crossed into the oncoming lane.

Brown was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of a broken leg and internal injuries.

The State Patrol said drugs or alcohol was involved in the 1 a.m. crash.

A complete report appears in Wednesday’s editions of the Peninsula Daily News.
