Sequim youths to try to drop eggs from 30 feet — so they won’t break

SEQUIM — Young engineers, from kindergartners to high-schoolers, will compete for more than $7,300 in scholarships and cash prizes Saturday in the first Egg Drop Contest.
The Sequim Education Foundation is hosting the engineering competition at Sequim Community Church, 1000 N. Fifth Ave.
Eggs will start dropping at 8 a.m. Saturday.
The challenge to local students age 5 to 18: Design a device to protect an uncooked chicken egg from breaking as it’s dropped onto a hard surface from a height of 30 feet.
The contest, which has divisions for elementary school, middle school and high school students, aims to stir up creative problem-solving skills, organizer Kathy Schock said.
