Art classes for children

PORT ANGELES — Children 6 to 12 are invited to register for several art classes at Art Supplies Unlimited, 118 W. First St.

Each class will meet twice a week, for two weeks.

Cost for courses range from $45-$50, depending on required supplies.

Returning students may bring back their supplies from previous classes.

Scheduled courses are:

Monday through Sept. 12

n Mondays and Fridays — “Basic Design” classes will meet from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Students will use colorful gouache paint and learn about designing artwork.

The “Georgia O’keeffe Study” classes will meet from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Participants will use the multi-tonal art of O’Keeffe as inspiration to create watercolor pieces.

n Tuesdays and Thursdays — “Brush and Ink” classes will meet from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Students will learn about colored ink, ink applications and brush techniques.

The “Picasso Study” classes are from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Participants will use a sumi-e Chinese brush and black ink set to practice numerous brush techniques.

Sept. 15 through Sept. 26

n Mondays and Fridays — Beginning drawing classes for emerging artists will be held from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Students will use graphite pencils to learn about lines, values and forms.

“Elephants Of Samburu” classes will meet from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

The National Geographic Photo of the Month will provide inspiration for watercolor pencil drawings.

n Tuesday and Thursday — “Elephants Of Samburu” classes will meet from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The National Geographic Photo of the Month will be explored through gouache paint.

Students will learn about creating various tints and shades.

The “Picasso Study” classes will meet from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Participants will use a sumi-e Chinese brush and black ink set to practice numerous brush techniques.
