First Federal gives $225,000 to maritime center

PORT TOWNSEND — First Federal announced on Tuesday a donation of $225,000 to the Northwest Maritime Center in Port Townsend, as the first gift of a million-dollar pledge.

First Federal announced on Aug. 21 that it would distribute $1 million to community-oriented programs this fiscal year.

The donation to the $12.6 million Northwest Maritime Center project is the first gift from the financial institutions’ Community Dividend Program.

The total $1 million in donations are expected to be distributed by June 30, said Karen McCormick, First Federal president and CEO.

The same amount will be distributed in each July-June fiscal year, she said.
