Olympic Medical Center hires consultant to help it find savings

PORT ANGELES — Olympic Medical Center will spend $166,000 in the hope of saving millions more.

Hospital commissioners this week approved a three-year contract with Thompson Healthcare of Stamford, Conn., to set performance goals for OMC, note areas for improvement, and share success strategies from similar hospitals.

The service will cost $34,000 a year, plus $59,000 to customize and install the system.

OMC also will spend $5,000 to bring to Port Angeles four people from the Rybar Group of Fenton, Mich.

During their four-day stay, they will analyze the medical center’s Medicare cases as a low-volume sole community hospital that may be eligible for higher reimbursements.

Rybar will collect 7.5 percent of money it recovers in underpayments up to $2 million, 25 percent of recoveries over that amount.
