Three finalists selected for Sequim Citizen of Year

SEQUIM — One of three finalists will be named the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce 2007 Citizen of the Year during at luncheon on Feb. 26, Jeri Smith, the sole staff member of the chamber, said Friday.

The noon luncheon will be at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road. The buffet will cost $15.

The honors luncheon had been planned before all but two of the chamber’s board members resigned on Tuesday, Smith said through her husband, visitor center volunteer Ron Smith.

The finalists are:

  • Jack McGhee, who has worked on the preservation and restoration of Sequim historic buildings in Sequim.

  • June Robinson, who has been active in the Sequim schools, parks and recreation issues, the Clallam County Heritage Advisory Board and the Clallam County Retired Teachers Association.,

  • Stephen Rosales, who has been involved with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula, Sequim schools, the Sequim Food Bank, the Sequim Police Department VIP program, Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County, Little League and the First Teacher program.

    A committee of previous recipients selected the top three finalists from a pool of Sequim citizens nominated by members of the community, Smith said in a written statement.

    Finalists were chosen based on their history of volunteer service to the Sequim community, she said.
