SEQUIM — Shoppers perusing two major shopping centers proposed for the city’s west side will also be able to stay overnight at a new hotel and dine at one of two new restaurants.

City Planning Director Dennis Lefevre has issued preliminary permits for a three-story Quality Inn hotel and two restaurants, all on a four-acre parcel just west of a proposed regional shopping center and southwest of a planned Wal-Mart “superstore.”

Seattle residents Bret and Trisha Wirta in December formally applied for a binding site plan that would let them develop and subdivide the parcel east of River Road and south of Grant Road.

They purchased the property in January for $970,000.

The Wirtas plan to operate a Quality Inn franchise and to sell lots to Applebee’s, a sit-down restaurant chain, and a Taco Del Mar, classified as a fast-food eatery.

If permitted to build, they will move to Sequim to be local operators, Bret Wirta said, and his wife will serve as general manager of the hotel.
