Port Angeles: Panel might suggest closing elementary school tonight; no action expected

PORT ANGELES — A task force will present a list of ideas to increase the efficiency of Port Angeles School District-owned buildings to the School Board tonight.
The proposals could include closing an elementary school, either Fairview, Monroe, Hamilton or Franklin.
District officials have not specified the proposals to be included in the report.
School Board members will not take action on any of the proposals during their meeting, which will start at 7 p.m. at the district’s newest school, Jefferson Elementary, 218 E. 12th St.
“The task force is just making suggestions,” said task force chairman Jim Jones, district executive director of business and operations.
“The board will decide at a later date what, if anything, should be changed in the way we operate facilities.”
A work session to allow board members to review the options and discuss the positive and negative ramifications of proposals is scheduled for Feb. 9.
