Port Angeles: Hearty dip into chilly water today

The 16th annual Polar Bear Dip begins at 10 a.m. today at Hollywood Beach adjacent to City Pier on the Port Angeles waterfront. Participants will begin gathering for “warm-ups”‘ about 9:30 a.m.

The standard to become a “polar bear” is running into the water and fully submersing yourself twice.

Official “polar bear” certificates should be available for participants.

The weather forecast for Thursday is calling for a high temperature of 38 degrees and a low of 29, with rain and snow showers.

About 90 people became “polar bears” last New Year’s Day, when the event also attracted more than 250 spectators.
