Sequim: New School Board member hits the ground running

SEQUIM — She won’t be an official member of the school board until December, but Sarah Bedinger takes on her first assignment today.
Bedinger defeated incumbent David McHugh for the four-year term on the five-member board in last week’s general election.
Bedinger will join board members at the annual Washington School Directors Association conference in Seattle.
“I’m feeling pretty good; I’m excited,” Bedinger said.
Another change on the board has Dave Blake returning for a third stint.
Blake ran unopposed for George Lindamood’s unexpired short-term seat after serving 27 out of the past 30 years as a director.
Blake, recovering from hip replacement surgery, said he will regretfully miss today’s conference.
“I’d love to go — I’m sure a lot has changed in the couple of years since I last was on the board,” he said.
Blake and Bedinger join incumbents Elna Kawal, June Robinson and Suzi Schmidt — who won re-election by a wide margin over challenger Walter Johnson — on the new board.
They will be sworn in Dec. 15.
