Port Angeles: Leaning supertanker? It’s OK, Coast Guard says

A large tanker may be leaning heavily on its side in Port Angeles Harbor this week.

But not to worry, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The S/R Long Beach is anchoring in the harbor for three or four days for preventative maintenance, which may include setting the ship at an exaggerated heeling position, Coast Guard Lt. Kevin Barres said.

“It’s not unusual,” he said. “They’re just doing their maintenance out there.”

SeaRiver Maritime’s S/R Long Beach is a single-hull, 949-foot tanker built in 1987.
