PORT TOWNSEND — The U.S. Coast Guard has established a security zone around a barge that will be transporting explosives from Naval Magazine Indian Island north through Puget Sound waters.

The temporary security and safety zone around the 203-foot barge Beaufort 20 goes into effect at 6 a.m. today and lasts until 6 a.m. Sept. 11., giving the vessel enough time to transfer the explosives to another barge for transport to Alaska.
