PORT ANGELES — The average resident’s monthly electric bill will increase $4.65 under an electric utility rate increase approved by the City Council on Tuesday night.

The formal ordinance will be presented for council approval at its Sept. 2 meeting. The rate increase will take effect Oct. 1.

The basic electric utility charge, which all residential customers pay, will remain at $11 per month.

The energy charge will increase from 4.75 cents per kilowatt-hour to 5.06 cents.

An average residential customer using 1,500 kilowatt-hours a month will see a 5.7 percent increase in his or her power bill — from $82.25 to $86.90.
