Port Townsend: Generator problem idles one of two Keystone ferries

Washington State Ferries workers spent a large part of Wednesday fixing a generator problem on one of the ferries on the Port Townsend-Keystone ferry run.

With only the ferry Quinault on the route, some runs were up to 20 minutes late during the afternoon.

By 3:45 p.m., the problem was fixed and both ferries were under way, though Quinault remained behind schedule into the evening.

The problem began around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when a generator problem developed on the Klickitat, the ferry service reported.

Both the Quinault and Klickitat were built in the 1920s. Along with two other Steel-Electric Class vessels, they are the only craft in the ferry fleet capable of entering the narrow and shallow Keystone harbor.
