Indian Island: Navy unamused over peace activist’s renaming of isle

INDIAN ISLAND — Call it the Cedar Island Center for Nonviolence and Peace.

That’s what Jefferson County peace groups are calling Naval Magazine Indian Island.

They have also unilaterally decided to rename Indian Island as Cedar Island.

A sign they previously hung near the base bearing the activists’ suggested name has since been put in storage.

But U.S. Navy and other officials aren’t acknowledging the activists’ pranks.
